A 12-year old pupil drowned as property worthy thousands was washed away by floods.

The body of the 12 year old was recovered today morning after he was washed away by flooded Kaiti river yesterday night.

The boy who hails from Itooni village, Ukia in Makueni County had gone for a birthday party with his three friends at neighboring Kikandu village before the incident

The body was found around four kilometers from the footpath used to cross the river.

The deceased was identified as Musyoka Muthama, a class six pupil from a neighboring school.

According to local administration, the body of the school boy was found after an hours search along the river bank since the river was flooded.

“We have successfully found the body of the 12 year-old boy after incorporating members of the public in the exercise,” said Chief Joseph Mutiso.

He warned residents against allowing children to loiter at night since they may face impending dangers in the darkness like the Kaiti seasonal river.

The body was ferried to Makueni level 5 hospital.

Elsewhere due to ongoing rains in Makueni, property worth thousands was destroyed and swept away by ranging floods from river Kima in Mukaa sub-county.

The family of Titus Mutungwa were left out in the cold following that incident and is calling for people of good will to intervene.

The floods which got Mutungwa unawares in the middle of the night made it impossible for him to salvage anything.
