One person has died of and two other treated and discharged for cholera in Vihiga.

According to director of health, Quido Ahindukha, the deceased was diagnosed in Nairobi—following an incident at a Karen wedding—but his condition worsened after traveling to Vihiga.

“He was rushed to Kaimosi Hospital where he succumbed to the disease,” Ahindukha said.

The other two were treated early today and discharged from the referral hospital.

It is the first time the county has been put on alert since July last year. Surveillance teams have headed to Kaimosi, Chango and Kigama as that’s where most people who had attended the Nairobi wedding come from.

Counties like Mombasa, Eldoret have also been put on monitor as some of the guests hailed from there
