Mohammed Ali to Joho’s brother: Let’s unite, work and transform Nyali
Nyali MP-elect Mohammed Ali (Moha) has extended an olive branch to his arch rival and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s Brother, Said Abdallah, telling him to work with his administration to develop Nyali.
Moha humbled Abdallah at the ballot after scooping 22,348 votes to clinch the Nyali MP seat. Abdallah got 13,673 votes.
“Said Abdallah called me to congratulate me on my victory. Whereas my views about his candidature and what a win for him would have represented for Mombasa, I am humbled by this show of sportsmanship,” Moha said.
“I say to Said, thank you for making me work harder in my campaign. I am willing to work with you to heal the rifts caused during this campaign, and will not turn away from your advice that is in the interests of the people of Nyali.”
Moha and Abdallah engaged in a fierce campaign as they flexed in their bid to succeed then MP Hezron Awiti.
Their political differences emanated from the time ODM held party primary elections where Moha accused Abdallah of working with some ODM county officials to rig him out.
Moha after the defeat ran as an independent candidate and launched a door-to-door campaign that perhaps convinced Nyali residents that he would better represent their interests in Parliament.
He says he will tirelessly work to help uplift the livelihoods of Nyali people.
“I am most grateful to you, the voter in Nyali, who heard my voice. You heard me when I said that we needed change; that our lives should not be interfered with by poor politics. You heard me when I asked you to vote for yourselves; to vote for your children, for jobs, for better services, for education,” the former KTN investigative journalist said on Friday.
“You heard me when I said that we should work to get drugs off our streets, and turn the energy of our young people to positive use. I will forever be grateful to you for choosing to hear me above the politics and propaganda that some of my competitors used to distract you during this campaign.”
