National treasury yet to remit funds for doctors pay, Ojaamong
Busia governor, Sospeter Ojaamong has dismissed a national government advertisement indicating it has disbursed Sh3 billion to counties to settle doctors pay arrears.
He told doctors from counties which have not honoured their return to work agreement to blame the national government which is yet to remit the said funds.
“The report indicated that Busia County has received over Sh.60million to be used for settling the doctors’ salaries.
“The national government published lies. No county has received the funds as alleged by the National Treasury,” said Ojaamong.
The governor made the remarks to the press at the Public Works offices in Busia Town after verifying his details with IEBC clerks on Thursday.
The governor also took issue with the national treasury’s plans to freeze remittance of funds to counties at the end of May, saying it will be a big blow to service delivery.
“During the transition period, the National Government needs to understand that service delivery has to continue. Already some contractors are repossessing completed projects demanding payment.
“Let it not be forgotten that the system has captured contractors’ details and nobody can run away,” he stated.
Ojaamong said the national government and not disbursed the funds as advertised, and that governors should not be blamed in the next few days if activities are paralyzed in the devolved units.
On the ongoing voter verification exercise, Ojaamong called on all Busia residents to visit their respective poling centers and confirm their registration status to avoid the disappointment of not voting in August.
“Let all of us visit our polling stations and ensure our names are in the register,” he appealed.
Ojaamong is set to square it out in the gubernatorial race with Funyula legislator Paul Otuoma, who is vying as an independent candidate after quitting ODM, former Kisumu county Secretary Humphrey Nakitare (Amani National Congress) and former National Irrigation Board CEO Dan Barasa (Jubilee).
