Three people among them two women appeared before a Kericho court on Tuesday where they were charged with possessing and trafficking 1, 240 sticks of bhang valued at Sh223, 000 along Kisumu-Kericho highway early this week.

Mary Akinyi, Elen Atieno and Lukas Okumu Okwanya, however, pleaded not guilty following which senior resident magistrate, Bernard Rugut Kipyegon released them on a Sh50, 000 bond and a surety of a similar amount each pending trial.

The trio was charged that on 17th, April 2017, they jointly transported the bhang using a Nissan vehicle registration number KCC 659G.

The prosecution told the court that the accused were arrested by police officers manning a road block at about 11.30am.

By press time, none of them had raised the bond. The case will be mentioned on May 5 and heard on June 22.
