Three police officers died when their vehicle hit a landmine in Garissa on Wednesday.

North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said two other officers were injured and were rushed to hospital. Saleh said the incident were on patrol in Kulan area when the vehicle hit a landmine.

The landmine is suspected to have been planted by terrorist group al-Shabaab.

Garissa has experience relative calm since February, when three people were hit with blunt objects on their heads and killed while they slept at a hotel in the town. The two waiters and a private security guard were attacked by unknown people at about 3 am.
