Marsabit town will soon boast of an ultra-modern multi-purpose stadium that will have a capacity for 15,000 people.

President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched the construction of the stadium when he visited the northern Kenya county on Wednesday.

The project is funded by the national government at a cost Sh295 million and will be completed by December this year.

President Kenyatta said the project is part of the Government’s pledge to construct modern stadiums to promote sports.

“The construction will be completed soon and we will come back to open this stadium next year. We are building more stadiums in other towns including Nyeri, Eldoret, Wote,” said the President.

The stadium will have a football/rugby pitch, an eight lane athletics track as well as a VIP pavilion.

The President was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto and Jubilee leaders from Marsabit County.
