Uhuru mourns gospel artists Daddy Owen, Ruffstone’s father
The father to re-known gospel artists Daddy Owen and Ruffstone is dead.
President Uhuru Kenyatta condoled with the family on Wednesday.
Josephat Mwatia died on Saturday after suffering a heart attack at his rural home in Kakamega.
According to Daddy Owen, his dad, 62, had just had dinner when he started complaining of chest pain.
“I pray this finds you well,” he said in a statement.
“It’s with sadness that I inform you that we lost our dad due to a sudden cardiac arrest at our rural home. It is, therefore, my honour to invite you to a thanksgiving service this Thursday at NPC Valley Road from 5-7pm. Keep us in your prayers. Bless.”
Uhuru who condoled with the family posted on Twitter: “I am deeply saddened by the death of Mzee Josephat Mwatia, father of gospel artists Rufftone and Daddy Owen. May God comfort the grieving family.”
Funeral arrangements are underway. Mwatia leaves behind a widow and five children; four sons who are all musicians and a daughter.
