A 30-year-old woman who attacked and injured a six-year-old boy after differing with his mother has been ordered to pay Sh.40, 000 fine or serve five months imprisonment by a Narok Court.

Anne Selei appeared before Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma charged that on April 28 this year, at Majengo area in Narok town, she assaulted Joel Njoroge, 6, and seriously injured him. She pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court heard that the accused who is a mother of two children aged nine months and six years called the minor from their house and set upon him with a stick injuring him on the right leg.

His mother who came out of the house when she heard his cries for help rescued the minor. The accused was arrested and escorted to Narok Police Station where the matter was reported. The boy was rushed to Narok Referral Hospital where he was treated and the P3 form filled.

In her judgment, the magistrate said the accused deserved a stiff penalty for assaulting a helpless minor who could not defend himself.

She urged the society to be empathic to children and be their guardians rather than molesters.

“The law requires that children be protected,” she said. She reminded the accused of her right of appeal in 14 days.

In a related case, a 25-year-old man was ordered to pay Sh. 50,000 fine or serve six in jail for assaulting and injuring his friend after a disagreement.

Joseph Kamau had admitted assaulting John Mwaniki on April 28 this year at Kandas area on the outskirts of Narok town.
